Mega cricket carnival in the form of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) yet again saw bowlers getting smacked to the cleaners however with a twist.

Notably, in match 54 of the ongoing IPL season, visitors Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) were invited to bat first by Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) skipper KL Rahul. However, the decision backfired as KKR managed to put a mammoth total of 235 runs on the board.

Let’s take a look at the highlights from the match:

1. Opener Sunil Narine continued his batting mojo

Opener Sunil Narine continued his sublime batting touch and smacked 81 off just 39 balls to set up a solid platform for the rest of the batters. Prolific all-rounder Andre Russell too showed his hulk-like batting and bowling prowess to outshadow the opponent allrounder Marcus Stoinis in one of the most ironic moments of the night. Apart from them, bowlers Varun Chakravarthy and Harshit Rana claimed three-wicket hauls as KKR mauled LSG by 98 runs at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow.

Although the hosts had a sniff in the game at various junctures, pacer Mohsin Khan’s concussion injury led Yudhvir Singh to come out as the impact substitute who duly obliged and dismissed Angkrish Raghuvanshi. However, Narine’s carnage proved too much as the hosts failed to capitalize after dismissing Russell.

2. KL Rahul and Marcus Stoinis succumbed under pressure

In reply, batters like KL Rahul and Marcus Stoinis failed to make their hard-hitting impact with the batter as the team succumbed to the run-chase pressure. Only a herculean effort could have set a record chase for Lucknow Super Giants but it wasn’t meant to be. As a result of this win, KKR are now at the top spot in the IPL points table displacing Rajasthan Royals.

With this consistency can we call Sunil narine a pinch hitter ? Solid consistency with outstanding strike rate.

Credit to the ground staff at Lucknow for the way they have improved the pitches since the end of the last IPL. It produces more attractive cricket for batters and bowlers now. First ever 200+ score in the #TATAIPL at that ground is a good indication.
